Questions and Answers
DOCTORS: Can I take Yasmin (birth control), Accutane (acne), & Topamax (for weight loss) at the same time? I have really bad acne, so I would like to take Accutane to clear my acne. I have already been prescribed the medication by my dermatologist but I also have to take Yasmin, a birth control medication while taking Accutane. Strong Med; High Risk for Birth Defects, etc. BUT....I am also very overweight and a friend of mine was prescribed Topamax to help her with weight loss, shes lost 72 pounds using this?!!? (it was not prescribed to her b/c seizures or migraines). I know that it is okay to take Yasmin & Accutane together. Also that its okay to take Yasmin & Topamax together b/c my friend does. But I am not sure of the interaction between all three medications at the same time. Can anyone tell me if I can take all three medications at the same time? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help

only me replied: "I would call a pharmacy and ask.......I thought Topamax isnt good with oral birth control."

roxygurlie72 replied: "I was on Topamax for about a year for migraines, I did lose 40 or so pounds. Once you get to 200 mg of Topamax that's when you have to I believe..you have to get on a low estragen birth control pill. I read a lot of bad things about Topamax and it kind of did bad things to me, I started gettin Panic attacks(I still do sometimes) and it made me pretty depressed and angry and I ended up in the hospital and they thought it was my body showing signs of trying to have a stroke, but it was the Topamax.. so you should definately read up on these medicines they can do some harm."

Yasmin Birth Control and Acne? Has anyone had success in clearing up acne/scarring with Yasmin birth control pill?

Ally H replied: "Yes. I have been on it for 2 years and my terrible acne (cystic pimples, scarring, all over the face and back) has all but cleared up. It worked wonders for me."

Yasmin birth control for acne HELP? i have mild acne just on my cheeks and like its gross man i was on benzagel 5 and stievaycin gel or whatever and now he prescribed me yasmin a birth control and i was reading reviews and some people say it works and some say it sucks and gives you breakouts ij ust started today and im scared! i dont want worse acne then i already have.

repoed2 replied: "Well you DON'T want to use a condom and you DON'T want to get more acne...so decide which is worse-facial blemishes or "less then great" sex."

snowflake replied: "Skin treatments will not work they are just a temporary fix for a much deeper problem honey. This is a result of excess androgens (male hormones) in your body. I had the same problem (i'm 19) and I tried every product known to man including proactive which only made my skin worse. Since going on birth control pills my skin has been dramatically changed for the better. good luck"

Do Yasmin birth control pills help clear acne as "Yaz" birth control does? on the yaz commercials they say that it even helps clear acne my doctor prescribed me yasmin by accident instead of yaz & i am only using birth control since i heard that it would clear my acne; so is it only yaz that clears acne? or does yasmin do the same thing?

horselover_2240 replied: "I don't know medically, but since I went on yasmin for menstrul problems I've had almost no pimples at all!"

c.campbell_xo replied: "I'm going on birth control for the exact same reasons, and my docter perscribed me Diane, she said it was the #1 birth control for acne reduction."

I am taking Yasmin birth control for acne, its destroying my personality,I need advice.? I have been taking Yasmin along with some antibiotics for 8 months. After trying every kind of medication,my skin has cleared up from using Yasmin! I was so happy,I was a different person in a good way! But in the last 3 months I have changed,it began with a feeling of sadness and gloom, and now Im depressed,I can never be positive, everything seems so difficult and so pointless.I also snap at the smallest thing, one minute Im fine, the next Im in tears or screaming at my boyfriend, who is understandably confused about the whole thing. I also have no desire to have sex,EVER! It doesnt enter my head anymore. But on my pill break every month,Im back to the old me,happy and loving to my boyfriend,I want to have sex,Im content with my life, everything is so easy! But,if I stop taking Yasmin,my acne will come back and I cant cope with that.I obviously need hormonal medication for my skin,as its the only thing that has worked, but what can I do?Please give me your advice.xx

Larissa replied: "Stop taking yasimn and try a differnet birth control, with less Estrogen, as that is most likely what is ``destroying your personality:``"

Nicki replied: "talk to a real doctor."

crazzy_nascar_chick replied: "Try Yaz instead, it's pretty much the same as Yasmin, but in a lower dose, which could help with your depression reaction. Give it a try."

starry_eyes11 replied: "There are many different kinds of birth control. You should talk to your gynecologist about it and they can offer you a different type of birth control that will keep your skin clear, but not make you crazy. Be in touch with your doctor. If your symptoms of depression don't go away after a couple months, try a new brand of birth control. You'll find one that works for you. Just be patient."

Rhianna Returns replied: "Yasmin is the best contraceptive Pill for acne and generally speaking it causes less mood related side effects however ALL hormone birth control has the ability to cause PMS mood type symptoms. Some women are just very sensitive to hormones. Whatever treatment you use to clear up your acne, there is always a chance of relapse I'm afraid. You need to weigh up the pros and cons. If the Pill is impeding on your life then you need to come off it. See what happens with regards to your skin. I am 24 later this year and I still have mild acne, I have given up trying to get rid of it. My last attempt was to try the Tetracycline antibiotics which have made my allergies 100 times worse and I am left with Dermagraphia. Sometimes(for some people, not all) the treatment side effects are worse than acne (of course it depends how severe your acne is). If I were you, come off Yasmin and see what happens with your skin, the acne might not return. If it does there are a number of topical preparations you could try for your acne too."

Loice replied: "Hey Lora, My first piece of advice would be get off the pill it is giving you a face but hiding the beautiful person you are inside. All the same you still need to deal with your acne should you get off the pill. I would tell you, if not plead with you, try the Mary Kay Acne System. If I could upload my sisters snaps for when she had acne I would, she has used the range and it has cleared it for her. She has been acne free for six years now and she is more than loving it. With acne she had a low self esteem and basically had low confidence now she has all that and looks so much better. Other thing is she has been able to use other things e.g. make-up, foundations etc on her face. The Acne Sys comes with a 30 day trial kit and should it not work you return it and get back your cash. The kit includes - clarifying cleanser which removes excess oil and helps to keep the dead cells from collecting in the pores - pore purifying serum it helps to cleanse and dry blemishes also prevents future breakouts - spot solution it targets blemishes and clears them up. Orders can only be placed with independent consultants see the website below or give me a ring on the 07595******* number on the site. Please do not loose your personality it is 95% of your beauty!!!!!"

Have you noticed less acne since starting YAZ or Yasmin birth control pills? How does it compare to Ortho Tri Cyclen LO, if you know?

Rachael B replied: "I used to take Ortho Tri and went off of it to get pregnant. While on it my acne was about the same, no improvement. Then, I got really bad ovarian cysts and my ob/gyn put me on Yazmin. The cysts are nearly gone, my acne has cleared up(my skin looks better than it has in a long time), and my periods are light and last for about 3 days. The only side effect is that I do still get moody when my body would have ovulated, but I wouldn't even call it PMS, just kinda grumpy. Yazmin is better than a bunch of other pills I've been on. Hope the info helps! :)"

yasmin birth control pill, weight and acne? so im just curious as well as nervous.. i started taking the pill yesterday, and im really skinny and i love my body, and i cant gain any weight.. since i just lost a bunch of it has anyone expierenced weight gain on yasmin and if so, how much? thanks :) also with acne, what personal expierences have you had?

GretaB replied: "You better check with your doctor about the pill. I heard that the Yasmin pill causes a lot of other problems, heart conditions, etc. Try switching to a different birth control. Birth control pills will give you a little weight gain due to water retention, it is normal and nothing to concern yourself with.It would only be 1 or 2 lbs."

starry_eyes11 replied: "I took it for four years and never gained any weight without a real reason. It also cleared my skin very well. I liked it a lot. And as far as what the other person said about heart problems on Yasmin, it is known to cause blood clots, but every birth control is. As long as you aren't a smoker, over 35, or have a family history of blood clots, you'll probably be fine. If you are concerned about that, you can talk to your doctor. But they obviously thought the benefits to you outweigh the risk. Any weight gain on the pill would only be a few pounds, but if you are upset with any side effects on the pill, just talk to your doctor and you can change your pill and hopefully reduce any bad side effects you have."

Do yasmin 28 birth control pills help clear up acne or prevent it? my doctor perscribed me yasmin to help clear up my acne..does it actually work?

Shelli replied: "i think it's helped me."

adrilu20 replied: "I've never had acne problems and still don't I've been taking those pills for a year now and they've helped me loose some weight"

brittme replied: "If it is hormonal it should help clear it up. If there is a big problem and the pills don't work, go see a dermatologist."

Is the birth control pill "Yasmin" good for keeping you from being pregnant along with treating acne? Im takeing yasmin the bithcontrol pill for acne, but does it prevent you from getting pregnate even if its for treating acne?

meishaj. replied: "Well I'm not sure about the acne part but i do know that it helps prevent you from being pregnant."

lieberhaeschen replied: "yes."

trini m replied: "Yea. It helps with acne too. At least it cleared mine up considerably."

Ia2Tx_RN replied: "If taken as directed, it's a good and effective oral contraceptive with very few complaints of side effects. It is also the most frequently requested birth control pill by dermatologists because it often greatly reduces acne in the women who use it. Most dermatologists will not prescribe it, for that reason, but will suggest it and then patients will receive the prescription from their primary care doc or an ob-gyn upon the dermatologist's recommendation."
